This wasn't a cricket match.
This was a batting festival with occasional interruptions from the bowlers.
Lions Unleash Absolute Carnage
The weather forecast simply read: "Hot."
By the time the players took the field, temperatures had climbed above 30°C, making it one of the hottest playing days of the season. Shade became premium real estate, water bottles disappeared faster than wickets, and fielders were already eyeing the drinks break before the first ball had even been bowled.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the suffering started immediately.
Jimmy took the new ball and delivered two respectable opening deliveries.
Then Vipin arrived.
On the third ball of the innings, Vipin launched a colossal six that straight over the bowler, cleared the boundary comfortably, disappeared more than 20 metres into someone's back garden, and was never seen again.
New ball required.
Some say the ball is still being searched for. Others believe it has been adopted by the homeowner's dog.
Jimmy, a man who has bowled many opening overs over the years, had probably never seen a batter attempt to relocate a cricket ball quite so aggressively.
Surely lightning couldn't strike twice?
Fifth ball.
Another enormous six.
This one stayed within the postcode, but only just.
The message was clear:
The Lions had come to bat.
Vipin's explosive 20 from just 14 balls set the tone perfectly and gave the Tigers an early taste of what was to come.
After Vipin departed, the Tigers briefly thought they had weathered the storm.
Then Abhishek and Stephen got together.
What followed was less of a partnership and more of a live batting masterclass.
The pair piled on runs at will, finding gaps, finding boundaries and occasionally finding exhausted fielders wondering whether cricket could perhaps be played indoors.
Stephen smashed a magnificent 100, while Abhishek somehow went one better with an unbeaten 117....having as many lives than a cat...

Tea Break Analysis
At tea, the conversation was fairly simple.
The Lions were discussing where to place the trophy.
The Tigers were discussing whether 297 was technically impossible or merely highly unlikely.
Then somebody pointed out that Sanjay hadn't batted yet….and a no. 9 batsman was sent up the order by Captain Niranjan.
A decision he will always remember as one of his best decisions.
Tigers Fight Back
The Tigers' chase started steadily enough.
Aadi (17) and Sid (19) got things moving before both fell to the clever bowling of Niranjan, who apparently decided captaincy wasn't enough responsibility for one afternoon.
When Nimesh departed shortly afterwards, the Tigers were wobbling.
Then Sanjay walked in.
Sanjay Goes Full Bollywood Hero
Every great chase needs a hero.
For most of the afternoon, Sanjay looked determined to audition for the role.
Walking in with the Tigers needing something special, he produced an innings that had everything: power, timing, drama, suspense and just enough heartbreak to make it a Bollywood blockbuster.
His magnificent 96 came from an array of crisp strokeplay, featuring 10 boundaries and 2 towering sixes, as he steadily chipped away at the Lions' imposing total.
At one end wickets were falling, but Sanjay simply kept going.
- Cover drives? Tick.
- Pull shots? Tick.
- Lofted boundaries? Tick.
- Giving his teammates hope? Absolutely.
As the chase gathered momentum, spectators started to believe they were witnessing something special. Every boundary was cheered louder than the last. Every run reduced the required total and increased the Lions' blood pressure.
By the final ten overs, Sanjay had transformed from batter into full-blown Bollywood action hero mode.
- Think Shah Rukh Khan in Chak De! India, refusing to accept defeat.
- Think Sunny Deol in Gadar, charging into battle against impossible odds.

Arjun & Pratham Keep the Dream Alive
The Tigers refused to go away.
Arjun blasted 32, including two big sixes, while Pratham produced a brilliant 47, keeping the required rate within touching distance, which included two sixes, one that literally landed inside the pavilion bar and the other damaging the roof.
For a while, the Lions looked genuinely nervous.
- Fielders suddenly became very interested in boundary ropes.
- Captain started changing fields every ball.
- And spectators began checking the scorebook every thirty seconds.
Sadiq Closes the Door
With the Tigers threatening an incredible comeback, Sadiq arrived to perform his favourite hobby: Taking wickets when people least want him to.
His spell of 3 wickets for 20 runs included the crucial dismissals of Jimmy, Aarav and Ankur, effectively slamming the door shut on the chase.
The wicketkeeping partnership with Rachit was particularly effective, producing two stumpings that had batters walking back wondering what had just happened.
The Tigers kept swinging.
The Lions kept believing.
And eventually the scoreboard stopped at 288.
Just eight runs short.
