Cricket Season 2017

18 May 2017

Yes, the season, month, days, hours and minutes…countdown begins now!

Let’s start-off the day with a “brain teaser”. The common bond for the words below makes a huge difference, guess what is?

ts, se, nis, ure, der, ant, sile; if you have not spotted yet, just try if this helps, “dulkar”.

That’s a landmark word for the Harrow Willow Club, as we step into the Tenth year, yet another reason to rejuvenate and celebrate. We recognise a decade of cricket was possible on a foreign land, affirms the passion for the game and the spirit of the members associated with this journey. We take this opportunity to thank all the members, past and present for their contribution and support. We would like to keep this season very special and we look forward to our members to make this season memorable as ever, more bonding, more cohesiveness and more fun together.

Season Start

The first day of the season starts on 07th May 2017 and the last game is on 17th Sep 2017. We are glad to share that we would continue to play in our Home Ground at North Wembley Sports Pavilion, Sudbury Avenue.

New Formats, New Identity

Over the last few years, HWC has attempted to introduce new version of the games, starting from playing external games in 2015 and then graduating to Middlesex Premier Cricket League’s 5th Division entry in 2016. In line with this continued tradition, the HWC 2nd team has been enrolled in the Middlesex Premier Cricket League in their 6th Division. Also, HWC has planned its own Morning League this year. We will have external version of the games in the morning played between 6 teams within Harrow & Brent. The formats have been finalised and you will hear further updates, once we firm-up our fixtures.

Captains & Teams

HWC has grown itself to form five competitive teams. The first team will be led by Rajneesh, supported by vC and the second team will be Amit, supported by Ketan. The morning league is driven by Nivedh, while the teams will be led by Sanjay and Nitin Srivastava. The captains are in the process of shortlisting the probable(s) for their respective teams and we will share you the update, before the season start. The captain of the fifth team is under discussion and we will come back shortly. For the first time, we are enrolling into T20 league, which will be played during Thursdays. As this is still under the planning stage, we will share the progress on T20 before the season-start. We urge the members to keep attending the Winter-Net sessions as the Captains use these sessions to select their teams.

New Memberships

HWC, like any other year is keen to admit new members and Amit Bhardwaj is our lead here. We would like you to introduce your friends and refer them to Amit for additional information.

Cricket Whites

We are in the process of ordering cricket whites for our members. Team whites include, Shirt, Trousers, Jumper and the cap. The members would need to pay for the cricket whites, which is £30, which is over and above the subscription amount of £ 150. To illustrate, subscription with cricket whites would be £ 180.

Personal Kits

HWC has remained unique in many parameters, as compared to other similarly placed clubs. One important factor was the ability to provide quality Kit (Bat, Pads, Gloves & Helmets) over the years. HWC had appointed Kit Management Committee, whose responsibility was to oversee the quality of the kits and refurbish them before the season start. Over the last 2 years, the engagement has been very challenging due to the game formats that we have embarked into. The kit coordination seems to consume more of the administration time and on quite a few days, it has been a sore point as well. We would continue to make available a few sets of Kits for new and guest members before they could own their kits.

It would be a valuable contribution for the members to start purchasing their own Kits; it would help the club to set their focus on other development activities of the club.

Volunteers & Game-Owners

As said earlier, the growth of HWC was possible by the unconditional support and volunteering of our members. This year, the games will be played at four different locations and that may demand extensive coordination and logistical support. Organising these games are entirely dependent on execution support from the members as per the plans drawn by the HWC Committee. We appreciate if members could share their willingness to the captains, highlighting their strengths and skills, that can complement to meet the game objectives on a given day. More hands, better the success.

Family Event

We would like to bring-in our families together as part of the Family Day celebrations. We are in the initial stages of the planning and the members are requested to speak to the Captains with their ideas and their willingness to support this event.

Let’s start our prayers to have every Sunday as a Sunny day, to sustain a Healthy Wellbeing with Cricket, that’s why named ourselves, HWC!!!

Tenth is Strength, let’s fun together.
